About us

360 Language learning

Our curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to accommodate students of all abilities and learning style preferences. The director and founder of CLS, known as Ms. Sophia to the younger students, is an American who struggled, but ultimately succeed in learning Arabic. Sophia uses her extensive background in Arabic studies from Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco, along with her Master's degrees in Education and Near and Middle Eastern Studies, and TEFL and CELTA certificates, to design courses and train teachers.

Our course materials are continually refined based on feedback from teachers (all of whom are native speakers of Arabic) and students, ensuring a 360-degree language learning experience. Additionally, all CLS team members frequently attend and present at conferences on education, world language teaching, and educational technology.

Critical Language Service offers tailored programs for young learners (ages 4-12), high school students (ages 13-18), university-level courses using the Al Kitaab textbooks, and all-age programs - which are delivered over the course of 10 levels. Our university-level curriculum matches the rigor of standard university Arabic courses. Designed for various learning style preferences, our programs leverage modern technology to provide effective and teacher led, online Arabic language instruction to students around the world.

“I want to thank you again. I always ask my kids after every class and they always say nothing but praises. Awesome video quality and the style of teaching is really effective.”

“The teachers are very very amazing and they are funny and they helped me a lot with my Arabic language…They really pushed me and they made me believe that you can do it, and you did it. It was a lot of fun and I stuck with it because the teachers didn’t give up on me. I kinda didn’t want to do Arabic because I didn’t believe in myself. But you guys made me believe in myself. ”

“I like the approach of it, I like the hands-on action of it...everything in general was catered to anyone with the drive to do it. I remember my words when we first learned Inshallah and I realized that Arabic is really not as hard as people make it out to be.”

“II had a great time in class, and it was really interesting that my teacher was in a different country than I am. She taught me from Egypt, and it was the first time I got to communicate with someone from the Middle East. I showed her homecoming from my high school, and I learned what it's like in Egypt. We learned a lot from each other. Overall, I learned a lot, and not just Arabic..”

Good online Arabic is hard to find. A good personal teacher is even harder to find. That’s what makes these Arabic classes so valuable…Although having an online teacher takes a bit of getting used to, it actually makes things much easier as lesson locations can be a bit more flexible and there is no wasted time on travel.

“I was really worried about her liking her Arabic teacher but Mashallah now they are really bonded and Aliyah loves her and Arabic classes. Sometimes we ask her to pray before dinner and her accent is really good! It's been 3 years since we started with Critical Language Service and I am very happy with her progress" .

“I love my teacher and her willingness to be flexible to meet my needs and my pace. I can't complain about anything and am certain that it is much more productive than a classroom setting. ”

“It’s quite amazing she’s in Egypt teaching us and we're in London looking at her! I like having a teacher who actually lives in Egypt as we get to see the different cultures and lifestyles. We’re always talking about our lives and she explains about her life in Egypt to us.”

“As an experienced language learner and teacher, I can confidently say that, even though Arabic is a very difficult language to learn, I have learned Arabic at a much faster rate than any language I have studied so far thanks to Critical Language Service’s excellent curriculum. I highly recommend this program for any person or school interested in learning more about this beautiful language and culture.”

“Twice a week we have an online Arabic lesson by Zoom with our teacher in Egypt. Our teacher doesn’t speak much English during class and this has helped our learning of Arabic. Now we can understand most of what he says, but when we first started the lessons he would mime the actions or hold objects up to the camera, which helped a lot. He has always made the lessons fun and we have built up a good relationship with him.”

“College was just a textbook, you just studied the textbook and the grammar all the time. I like this (classes with Critical Language Service) so much better because you get to speak Arabic and you get to use your own imagination. It's so much more enjoyable.”

“Thank you for all of your help and thank you for continuing the Arabic class for my kids. Honestly, its been a great thing for them having the abiltity to learn slowly, and me too. Its difficult because where we live there is nobody who speaks Arabic, so over the years the Arabic class has been a great thing.”

“I enjoy doing online classes with a teacher in Egypt because we get a native speaker as our teacher and we learn both formal Arabic and dialect Arabic. Also we get lessons in the comfort of our own home without having to get dressed up to go out."
